A new feature here at BalkanFile.com is a weekly Belgrade photo. I sometimes take my digital camera with me when I go outside, but more often than not it’s left at home. One thing that’s always in my pocket is my mobile phone. So, this new type of regular post, published every Sunday, will feature a mobile phone picture that I’ve taken at some point during the previous week.
Now, don’t be expecting masterpieces here. The photos could be of anything: something amusing I’ve seen; a protest; people; an area of tourist interest, random not-so-touristy streets; or even a cat. I’ll also write a short blurb about what the photo is about.
So without further ado, here’s the first Weekly Belgrade Phone Photo!
This is taken at the Bajlonova zelena pijaca, a fresh produce market, in my area of Belgrade. It’s located opposite Skadarlija and next to the Bitef theatre. You can get all sorts of fresh fruit and vegetables from the villagers who come every morning from 5am. You can also stock up on house cleaning products, toiletries, clothes, electrical bits and bobs, meat, cheese and even bird cages. Once you get to know your “own” seller, you’ll always get the very best produce he or she has to offer.

Great idea, neighbor, I must say. What phone do you use, btw? The photo is very clear.

Thanks! And thank you for the Twitter retweet as well.
I have a Nokia 5000. The picture is actually quite clear, so I’m impressed. Nightime shots are not so good unfortunately.

Hello, Adam, and welcome back. I love this market, but rarely get there; need to go back. I had a favorite seller, once upon a time.

I’m finally getting around to viewing your photos. It’s great to see more of everyday Belgrade. The background info is also enlightening.
