This is Bulevar Milutina Milankovica, otherwise known as Treci bulevar (Third Boulevard) to most Belgraders – street names change far too often and most people tend to use the old ones – on a hot, summer’s day in Novi Beograd. I took this while waiting for a tram, which go and up and down in the centre of this very wide and long (almost 3km) stretch of road.

I think these “apartment blocks” are referred to as “televizorke”, or something like that (maybe someone can correct me), because the windows are so small – about the size of a TV set! I am sure plenty of people live happily enough in these blocks, but to my mind they are about as bad as socialist residential construction got – tiny, packed together concrete flats with absolutely NO concession to aesthetics, and probably not much to basic living needs either. I hope they pull them down soon and build something better…

No, these are not the ones called ‘televizorke’, this is Blok 23, and ‘televizorke’ are further down Bulevar Milutina Milankovica (Blok 28 or 29, I’m not sure).
