This is a typical communal entrance to a block of flats in Belgrade with individual post boxes/pigeon holes for each flat in the building. Coming from the UK, I was a bit shocked that your mail was left downstairs and not delivered through your own personal letter box in the door, especially because the boxes in my first block of flats weren’t exactly secure. But nobody is that interested in your mail anyway.
The annoying thing about this system is that if you get a parcel delivered, the postman leaves you a card and you have to drag yourself down to the post office to pick it up. Also, when I first moved here, I would often forget that I had to check the box for mail and wondered why nobody was writing to me!

Are Crunchies, Skittles and marshmallow teacakes really worth the hassle of effort, I wonder? Hmm…they probably are

Anyone who works has to go to the post office to pick up parcels anyway….

@Lar
Yes, they are well worth the hassle!
@Catherine
Good point, but in my particular case I work from home during the day.
Also smaller and ‘flatish’ parcels, such as books or theabove mentioned Crunchies, can fit through a UK letter box.
But it doesn’t really bother me that much – it’s good to take a break from work with a walk to the post office!

These mailboxes look like they’re in reasonably good shape! Ours are, too. Our mailman often leaves my oversized magazines above the boxess…free for grabs, but no one so far seems to be interested in Bon Appetit! Yesterday I found an important document I had dropped off at an office for official purposes crammed into my box….and the envelope was marked ‘registered.’ I think you’re supposed to sign for those… In one way, my mailman saved me a hike to the post office, but still. Sometimes he’ll leave stuff with a neighbor; okay by me.

Well, it’s the same as in my country, so I felt no surprise at all. I suppose mailboxes are like this in most of the world.

@Pedro
Yeah, I presume it’s mainly just the UK which decided to be different from the rest of the world – or was it the other way round?
