Viktor over at Belgrade 2.0 has discovered a very interesting report published by UNHCR. Apparently, Serbia is among the top ten countries with the highest number of asylum seekers seeking refuge in industrialised countries such as the US, Canada and Germany. No, this report doesn’t use old data from many, many years ago, the figures actually relate to the first six months of 2008. This report puts Serbia up there with countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran and Nigeria.
This is certainly very surprising – life in Serbia can’t be as bad as life can be in those countries. Viktor gives two of his reasons as to why this might be in his post.
Do you have any theories? Click one of the links above to Belgrade 2.0, which also links to the original UNHCR report, and let him (and the rest of us) know.
