Thanks to Beogradoholik, whom you can follow on Twitter @Beogradoholik, for pointing this out.
Have you ever wanted to see what’s happening in Belgrade but can’t because you don’t live there? Perhaps you just want to conduct a bit of spying on the city’s residents? Well, thanks to strategically placed web cameras at Trg Nikole Pasica (Nikola Pasic Square) and Novi Beograd(New Belgrade), you can.

Now, the best bit about these cameras is that you can have complete control over them. So you can pan left and right, up and down, and even zoom in and out. The cameras are in real-time and the picture is pretty good quality. Enjoy but don’t be zooming in on people’s windows – and remember that others can see what you’re looking at!

Update: There’s now a live webcam at Ada Ciganlija – Belgrade’s recreational area with lake swimming, sunbathing, cafes, sports terrain, cycling paths and much more. Click here to check it out.

These aren’t new — they’ve been there since 2004, when they were even better because there weren’t so many billboards to block the views. Informatika also used to have a webcam overlooking Trg Republike/Republic Square, but that — alas! — disappeared a couple of years ago. There was nothing else like it for viewing major events & key people in Belgrade (or in any other major city of the world), & I continue to hope they’ll bring it back. For a very brief period, there was a webcam in Dorcol, too. The quality of the webcams has improved over the years (higher zoom & resolution) but I think the software is worse (now it’s impossible to get good, fast snaps, whereas before it was just impossible to download them).
