Welcome to the new Balkan File

As you can see, Balkan File has moved to a new address and had a major design revamp. I hope that you like it.

All previous posts from the old Blogger site have been manually moved to this new system (and new photos have been added to many of them). Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to import all the comments readers have left over the last year or so. Hopefully, you will rectify that by adding your say to new and old posts alike.

Why not check out the new about page? It states who I am and what this blog aims to do.

If you were subscribed to the old Balkan File by e-mail or RSS, you shouldn’t have to update your feed. The old feed should, hopefully, have been redirected here. Let me know if you’re not receiving updates. If you haven’t subscribed yet, why not check out the subscribe page and get notified whenever Balkan File is updated?

If you have a link to the old balkanfile.blogspot.com from your own website or blog, please update it to www.balkanfile.com. It would be very appreciated.

Love the new design? Hate it? Think something is missing? Then let me know by leaving a comment. I’d love to hear your feedback.

That’s all for now.

Hey, excellent! You’ve obviously been getting into this – that was quick recognition of the limitations of Blogger/Blogspot! This’ll be self-hosted Wordpress, I guess?

All the best with it – just try not to get too obsessed with webmastering, trust me, it’s addictive, checking those stats every 5 minutes… :)

Oh, when you’ve got a minute, could you change the link to my blog? I moved to a proper domain recently, it’s now http://www.mtbserbia.com.

Also, if you want to try the suggestions detailed here: http://www.techcounter.com/wor.....ress/?cp=4 – it might help you to redirect stray visitors to Blogger. Looks a little involved, but I don’t think it’s as complicated as it looks!

    Hey Mark,

Thanks. Too late, I’m already addicted to webmastering and stats from the old Blogger site, and I’ve spent AGES tweaking this new self-hosted Wordpress!

    I’ve updated your link :-)

I’ll check the redirection thing out later today. Thanks!

    Hey Adam!

The new Balkan File looks pretty cool! I’m updating your link in my blog now :)

Oh, and by the way, now I remember: I wanted to ask you if you happen to have any suggestions of cool places to go out at night here in Belgrade? I’ve been to several places, but maybe you have a new suggestion for me? :)

    Hey Maria,

Thanks for updating your link. :-)

Well, as you probably know, there’s lots of cool places to go out in Belgrade! Let’s narrow it down a bit. Are you looking for bars, clubs or both? And which kind of music do you prefer? :-)

Hmm, it could be both (bars and clubs), but let’s stick with clubs… I like mostly all kinds of music, but let’s say brit pop, rock, 80’s stuff and so on – any suggestions? :)

    Hey Maria,

I don’t really listen to rock so I’m not so clued up as to where to go, but I asked some friends and they recommended:

KST (Klub studenata tehnike, Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra 76) for rock music. They also play 80s music some nights.

Akademija (Rajiceva 10 – last street before Kalemegdan on Knez Mihailova) is a good underground and non-commerical club, it’s also a very old one.

Idiot (Dalmatinska 13), not really a club, but it is a cool bar/coffee shop and one that I go to often. They play rock music.

Tramvaj (Ruzeveltova 2) has live rock music but is more like a pub.

If you like electronic music, I’d probably be able to help more ;-)

Oh, yeah. Salvador Dali (Hilandarska 20) is a very cool and relaxed bar with an electronic juke box – so you can play whatever music you want. :-)

    Great, thanks!!!

And yeah, electronic music is my thing, too! like I said, for me, (almost) anything goes when it comes to music ;)

I am a little surprised you haven’t mentioned the “turbo-folk” floating nighclubs (”splavovi”)…!

Haha well thought Mark! I like those, quite a lot, I have to confess…

Well, those turbo-folk splavovi don’t generally play rock or 80s music! Of course, you have house music at the famous Sound, Freestyler, Refresh (former Exile) and Plastic splavovi.

Although, my friends did mention one called Sikara at the 28 Maj Sports Centre area of the Danube with pop and rock-ish music.

If you like techno/progressive/electro music, then I recommend Andergaund and X-Lagoom (below Brankov most). Those are my two personal faves.

I should perhaps make some posts in the future detailing Belgrade’s night life.
